The penetration of mobile service in Hong Kong is one of the highest in the world. There are some safety precautions that you should pay attention to when you use your mobile phones, tablet PCs and other mobile communications devices.
Use Mobile Communications Devices in Compliance with Technical Specifications
- All mobile communications devices on sale in Hong Kong shall comply with the relevant technical specifications and radiation safety requirements prescribed by the Communications Authority (CA), which are based on internationally recognised standards.
- All mobile communications devices shall comply with the exposure limit in terms of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) recommended by
- the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) or
- the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The SAR limit of both of the ICNIRP and the IEEE for such devices is 2W/kg.
- Under the Voluntary Certification Scheme promulgated by the Office of the Communications Authority for telecommunications devices, vendors and manufacturers may apply for certification under the scheme to signify that their mobile communications devices meet the radiation safety requirements prescribed by CA. Most of the devices on sale in Hong Kong have already obtained such certificates. The list of certified mobile communications devices is available at the following web site: List of Mobile Communications Devices which Comply with the Radiation Safety Requirements Prescribed by the Communications Authority
- If a particular model of mobile communications device does not appear in the lists above, please approach direct the relevant vendor or manufacturer for further information.
