- Calling numbers prefixed with a “+” sign displayed on mobile phones indicate that the calls originate from outside Hong Kong, even though the calling numbers may be masqueraded as Hong Kong phone numbers by displaying Hong Kong’s area code “852” or any authority’s hotline number.
- Some of these calls may use fake caller number display, such as +852 2961 6333, or other Hong Kong telephone numbers including local numbers prefixed with “5”, “6” or “9”. Do not disclose personal information to unauthenticated callers under any circumstances.
- Telephone scam is a criminal offence. If any person suspects that calls are telephone scams, he/she should report to the Police.
