Choose Legitimate Wi-Fi Devices for Use in Hong Kong
- In Hong Kong, consumers can possess and use conventional Wi-Fi devices (such as Wi-Fi 4, 5 and 6) which operate in the 2.4 GHz and/or 5 GHz bands, and Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices which operate in the 5.925 – 6.425 GHz band.
- Not all Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 access points are permitted for use in Hong Kong. Those Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices operating in the 6.425 – 7.125 GHz band for use in Canada, the United States and some other economies are not permitted in Hong Kong.
Certification and Labelling of Wi-Fi Devices
- Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 access points permitted and offered for sale in Hong Kong must be affixed with the CA label. Consumers should look for the CA label when buying Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 access points.
- Certification and labelling of Wi-Fi 4/5/6 devices and Wi-Fi 6E/7 client devices (such as USB Wi-Fi adapters, smartphones and laptop computers) are voluntary. Nevertheless, consumers are encouraged to purchase certified Wi-Fi devices.
