Public Lecture on "Measures to Combat Phone and SMS Scams"

This year, OFCA continued to participate in the lecture series of the "Science in the Public Service", a campaign jointly organised by the Hong Kong Observatory and other government bureaux/departments and public bodies. Under the theme of this year's lecture series, i.e., "Science and Innovation", Mr Michael Chan, Principal Regulatory Affairs Manager of OFCA, gave a talk on "Measures to Combat Phone and SMS Scams" at the Hong Kong Science Museum on 7 December 2024.

In recent years, telecommunications scam cases have become more and more rampant. In order to combat phone and SMS scams, apart from working with the telecommunications service providers and the Police to devise and implement feasible technical measures from the telecommunications perspective, OFCA has also been conducting various public education activities through different channels to promote anti-phone scam messages to the public. In the talk, Mr Chan had introduced the various measures and details of their implementations for combating phone and SMS scams. He also shared with the participants the Do's and Don'ts upon receiving suspicious fraudulent phone calls and SMS.
