- The Short Message Service (SMS) Sender Registration Scheme has been implemented to help members of the public verify the identities of SMS senders and stop fraudsters from masquerading as these organisations in sending the SMS.
- Registered Senders will use Registered SMS Sender IDs with the prefix “#” to send SMS to local subscribers of mobile services.
- If you receive a SMS prefixed with "#", it means that the message is sent by a genuine Registered Sender.
- Any SMS whose sender ID contains "#" but is not sent by a Registered Sender will be blocked by telecommunications service providers.
- You should still remain highly vigilant against SMS sent by senders without the prefix "#" or only displaying phone numbers. Under any circumstances, do not disclose any personal information, bank account numbers or credit card details, or transfer money to unidentified senders, and do not access any hyperlink in the SMS, to avoid suffering any loss.
